Trained in classical theatre at The Juilliard School, Lili worked as an actor for fifteen years before her growing interest in education led her from the stage to the classroom. She developed a storytelling and lecture program based on Shakespeare’s plays, which she performed in public and private schools in the Los Angeles area. From 1999 to 2004, she taught eighth grade English at the Curtis School. While there, she trained with and became a facilitator for Schools Attuned, an organization devoted to teaching teachers about differences in learning. She then returned to school herself and earned an MFA in Creative Writing from Warren Wilson College. While devoting more of her time to writing, she tutored privately. A certified Barton tutor, she specialized in working with dyslexic students. She is now retired from teaching.

While volunteering as an after school tutor at 826LA, Lili developed a workshop series called LitLab in which students read, discussed and experimented with writing. She led the workshops at both 826LA Mar Vista and at the Hammer Museum. She has also been a visiting writer at the Hotchkiss School in Connecticut, where she taught flash fiction workshops.
